One great yoga tip for beginners at home is that you remember to breathe. Each pose has its own pattern of breathing that follows inward and outward movements.
A yoga mat is the only prop that you require to practice yoga. It is pretty essential to avoid slipping on floors.
Finish your yoga practice with Shavasana, ‘Corpse pose’, lying flat on the floor, resting and consciously relaxing your body for 5 ~ 15 minutes. Don’t rush ! get up very gently, rolling onto your right side and coming up to a sitting position in your own time.
A regular yoga discipline will reap more benefits even if it is 15 minutes per day, rather than ‘starting from cold’ again once in a while.
It is advisable not to eat for one or two hours before yoga practice. Avoid alcohol, sugar or caffeine before yoga.
Yoga is a quiet, focused activity, but we need not to take ourselves too seriously. Develop a sense of humor.
